KITCHEN ETIQUETTES

Abimbola Omole
Cooking is fun, so much fun. But kitchen safety is priority. Think about it, knives, fork, fire, microorganisms are found everywhere, observing kitchen etiquettes is a good habit to develop. Always pay close attention to what you are doing in the kitchen because one slip may cause serious injury or accidents. That's so not nice. Shebi?
On that note, here are some tips I'd like to share; (you people will say i like sharing tips too much abi. :( heez not my fault) *shines teeth

• Store knives in a wooden block or in a drawer (keep out of reach of children)
• Never cook in loose clothes and keep long hair tied back, you wouldn't want anything accidentally catching fire, not to mention hair in your food. Eww, that's so gross
• Turn pots handle away from the front of the stove. Children can't bump into them if they're out of the way.
• Refrigerate temperature sensitive foods such as raw meat, fish and certain dairy products that can spoil quickly.
•  Remove mouldy food in the fridge, do everyone a favour and just chuck it in the bin
• Clean your kitchen surfaces at all times.
•  Do the dishes at all times. Please, you wouldnt want to
•  Wash your hands often.
•   Use hand / paper towels whenever possible. Be sure to wash them regularly.
•  Get rid of any appliance that is broken or damaged
• Make sure all wires, cords and plugs are not frayed and are well connected
• f possible, get a fire extinguisher for your kitchen
•  Always use cutting boards, prevent cutting close to your body, it can slip and cut you.
•  Be sure appliances are unplugged after use
•  Don't leave the kitchen with pots and pans cooking on the stove. Make sure to turn off burners as soon as    you take the pots off.
•   Check furniture, curtains and dish towels to be sure they are not blocking the heaters
•  Wipe up spills immediately, keep the floor dry at all times so no one slips and falls.
•  Casualness causes casualties, don't answer or talk on the phone while cooking, you might be distracted and injuries might occur
•  Keep young children 'male and female' (lol) out of the kitchen while cooking, at least with supervision.
Finally, be happy while enjoying the process of boiling/cutting/dicing/frying your recipes. Don't be in the kitchen if you are too excited or sad, to avoid mistakes like sugar for salt, keresene for groundnut oil.
( it has really happened before sha, dont ask me for details sha)    *winkssss
