HOME - MADE DOUGHNUTS

Abimbola Omole

So I made some 'Home-Made Ring Doughnuts' during the week. It's a long gist sha, you can hit me up privately for the gist. *widegrin

Some refer to it as ''Donuts'' while some call it ''Doughnuts'' they are both correct tho, personally, I think 'Donuts' are just the normal doughnuts that have gotten an MSc in the abroad.  Shebi? :p

It will also amaze you to know that 6th of June is National ''Donuts'' Day! ehn ehn!! wetin person no go see?

Nigerian Doughnuts can either be fried or baked. They are just all shades of tasty! They also come in different shapes and sizes! They are relatively simple to make, the only wahala is just the time you'll wait so the dough can rise. Unlike puff puff, doughnuts are less oily making it a little fit fam friendly! *shines teeth

Ingredients

500g of white flour
2.5 table spoons of dry yeast
2 cups of warm water
50g of margarine/ melted butter
1 large egg (optional)
180ml warm milk
70g of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
Vegetable oil for deep frying.

Preparation

Add flour, salt and yeast to a dry bowl. (Basically add all the 'dry' ingredients together)
Stir thoroughly with a whisk or spoon. Personally, I use my hands. No time biko
Add the margarine and use your hands to work it in the flour.
Add the sugar.
Create a little hole in the middle and add your eggs and milk.
Use your hands to work on the dough till it comes together with no lumps in it.
Continue kneading till dough becomes soft.
You can either cut the dough into small sizes and allow it to rise, or you allow the dough to rise first, before you cut it into shapes.
You can use cookie cutter to cut and create holes in them, or you improvise.
Allow it to rise for about 10-15 minutes.
Just quickly, remember to ice your drink(s) so it can assist to wash down your donughts. You will thank me later.
Start adding doughnuts to hot oil till it becomes golden brown.
Add them to paper towel to allow the excess oil to drain.
Sprinkle sugar and add Jam. You can even glaze it with senrenren so your doughnuts can resemble the abroad donuts.
The drink you've reserved should be cold by now, except if phcn..... well never mind.
Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget to comment. It's like chunks of okporoko in my Egusi soup... I Looooooooovvvvveeeee Yoooooooouuuuuu!!!!!
