SHOPPING FOR FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

Fruits and vegetables are good sources of vitamins and minerals, so try to include a good portion in your meals, whether that be a banana or a glass of fruit juice. For a healthy dose of vegetables, try fresh cabbage, spinach, lettuce, tomatoes on your toast. Eating healthy is the goal.

If you happen to live around the market  that sells fruits and vegetables, consider  yourself lucky. You can talk to the sellers, get friendly with them and gain more knowledge about what you are about buying. Here are some tips to follow:
  • Look for fruits and vegetables, that are less exposed to sunlight
  • Go for organic produce, most times
  • It's okay to buy some climateric fruits and ripen them at home
  •  Look for fresh green colour in vegetables
  • For onion and garlic, look for a shiny and tight outer skin
  •  Any leaves you must buy must not be wilted
  •  Tubers should be unblemished and hard to tuch
  •  Tomatoes and pepper should be ripe, but not too soft.
The point is, spare some time to get good ingredients for cooking, as it will enhance your experience, making it enjoyable. Stick to fresh and good quality.
